This workshop aims to help educators connect curricular competencies and content to effective assessment and decision-making. Participants will clarify proficiency by developing tools and processes that define and support student learning. Through collaborative, hands-on activities, educators will create practical, classroom-ready strategies to enhance assessment design and build confidence in applying curricular competencies.

Katie White
Katie White is an author, coach and consultant who spends her days working to transform the educational experience for teachers and students. She has a passion for helping others develop a personalized understanding of the connections between curriculum, assessment, and instruction and creative approaches for reaching and teaching every single learner in every single classroom.
Katie has served the role of classroom teacher (K-12), online high school teacher, instructional coach, vice principal, principal, and central office leader. She facilitates adult learning worldwide and feels privileged to grow through her interactions with so many gifted educators and leaders.
Katie has authored three books and co-authored her most recent fourth publication. She has a chapter in a fifth publication set to be published in March 2025 and her sixth book (co-authored) is being drafted. She has also contributed to several books published by other authors and has written multiple educational curricula, resources, and training within the educational sector. She has blogged on several sites, including All Things Assessment and her voice can be heard on many podcasts.

Do not park in the spots marked for the Dario restaurant.
We encourage participants to carpool or use public transit, as onsite parking at the venue is limited to 180 spots.
Please note that Dario's restaurant's designated parking spots are not available for use. There is also street parking on Grandview and Slocan Street.
Additional parking for up to 70 vehicles is available at St. Jude's Elementary School, which is a 10-minute walk to the Italian Cultural Centre.
If using public transit, the Renfrew SkyTrain station is a 23-minute walk from the venue.
Please note: If using EVO, the car cannot be parked in the lot, or it will be towed.

The purpose of the Catholic Educators’ Learning Days is to provide system-wide professional development focusing on classroom assessment and reporting in relation to established learning standards with teachers and students setting clear, strengths-based criteria for evaluating and communicating progress.

Registration is open only to principals, vice-principals, classroom teachers, specialists, and learning support teachers. This is not for Office Staff and Education Assistants. Office Staff and Education Assistants will continue with their regular duties and responsibilities as directed by their administrator.

No. The day is designed as a workshop. Participants will be seated at tables by grade level (elementary) or area of learning (secondary). There will be opportunities for networking and collaboration.

Everyone will gather at their respective schools. In the morning, there will be two follow-up activities led by the principal. The first activity will focus on reflecting on what they have learned, and the second will involve planning the next steps for their school community.

Yes, there will be a Years of Service recognition on Thursday, February 13 to honour the dedication and contributions of long-serving staff members. Archbishop Miller is scheduled to present to the elementary and high school recipients at their respective workshop venues. As they will not be in attendance, Office Staff and Education Assistants will receive their awards at a later date at their schools.

Yes, breakfast, lunch, and beverages will be provided during the workshops to ensure that all participants are well-nourished and can fully engage in the sessions.

Teachers should bring a notebook, pen, any relevant teaching materials, and an open mind ready to engage and learn. It's also recommended to bring a reusable water bottle and any personal items needed for comfort throughout the day.

Yes, seating will be assigned to promote networking and collaboration. Elementary participants will sit with their grade-level groups, while high school participants will be grouped by their areas of learning. Upon arrival, participants can refer to the seating charts to find their assigned tables.

The workshops—led by Katie White for elementary educators and Tom Schimmer for high school educators—are tailored for classroom teachers, principals, vice-principals, and learning support teachers who are familiar with or actively implementing the BC curriculum.
